Top 10 BGS Black Label Pokémon Card Sales Ever
A card worthy of four “10” subgrades is worthy of a special label. Starting today, each card that reaches this quad-10 level will receive a special black label showing that the ultimate grade has been reached.
- Beckett.com (2014):
Beckett Grading Services (BGS) introduced a Black Label to their graded cards in 2014 (but to keep our list relevant, this post will only consider auction results since Jan 1, 2021). Cards that receive this rare and prestigious label are graded 10 overall as well as in four subcategories: Centering, Corners, Edges, & Surface. These cards are sometimes referred to as "Quad-10".
Cards that do not receive a perfect subcategory mark may still grade at a 10 overall, but these cards will not receive the Black Label. For example, this Dark Charizard has an overall grade of 10 but did not merit the Black Label because it received a 9.5 in the Corners subcategory.
Statistically speaking, of the 3,433 Pokémon cards graded by Beckett in the NerdMelon database, only 388 are graded a perfect 10 for the overall grade, with only 44 of those being the prestigious Quad-10 Black Labels. Conclusion ~ only about 0.01% of graded Pokémon cards will receive a Black Label.
This rarity is why Black Label cards fetch such a premium. Any card that receives this label, even the common cards, is considered ultra rare and can sell for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars at auction. So without any further ado, we bring to you:
